Meeting Review (5th December, 2006)

JOINT MEETING BETWEEN BANGSAR & MAXIS TOASTMASTERS CLUBS

Joint meetings are usually very exciting and it was proven once again by Bangsar and Maxis. Imagine! More than 30 people attended the meeting. Besides members from Bangsar and Maxis, there were also members from HSBC, Money Mastery, Ernst & Young and some non-Toastmasters guests. The room had to be arranged in theater style to accommodate all the attendees.

The meeting was opened with great enthusiasm by the very energetic SAA of Maxis, Toastmaster Marziana. Our very own President, Lakhmichand, ATMB was accorded the honor of giving the opening address. As usual. he never fails to emphasize the power of Toastmasters in changing our lives.

The Toastmaster of the evening was Hashim Adnan, CC, from Money Mastery. Well attired and with very pleasant vocals, he conducted the whole session with clear confidence and composure.

Our up-and-coming Toastmaster, Sham Sunder, delivered an invocation about famous names adopted by very successful corporations and how the names originated. Great names, of course, should inspire us towards success and achievement.

Table Topics master was Toastmaster Nirmala from Maxis. She chose good topics that gave room for humour as well. There were 5 speakers which included Ranjit and Renuka from Bangsar. Renuka spoke well by supporting the idea that husbands should share the burden of domestic chores. Daniel Teh of Maxis showed himself as the live-wire of Maxis with his bold and hilarious rendition. But guess what? Ranjit again came out tops with his humorous comments on looking good and sexiness. Bangsar sure has a Table Topics champion in the making!

Table topics evaluator, Lakhmichand again delivered a very objective evaluation of all the speakers.

Daniel Teh of Maxis also entertained us in the Anything Goes Session with his witty remarks on the significance of knowing where and when to ‘pause’ in your speaking.

There were 4 assignment speeches. Lynette Toh of Maxis did her C&L #9 entitled Nature’s Call. She was persuasive by showing us beautiful slides of nature’s mountains and streams.

Then, Letchuman of Bangsar completed his C&L #10 with an inspiring speech about society and unity. Congratulations to Letchuman, Bangsar’s newest CTM!

Ganesh Sangaran, ATM B, of Maxis motivated us with an advanced speech entitled “The Power of Belief”, a very well-delivered speech with great substance and good body gestures.

Finally, Ranjit, CTM, from Bangsar entertained us with his very down-to-earth portrayal of his experiences as a cabbie. Ranjit was a last minute replacement for Shanmugam who could not make it.

He again proved his mettle by winning the Best Speaker award.

Speech evaluators Stephen Francis, Ranjit Singh, Daniel Teh and Renuka delivered their evaluations skillfully with helpful and constructive feedback. “Best Evaluator” award went to Daniel Teh of Maxis.

The meeting was closed by President of Maxis, Toastmaster Suthesan who expressed his thanks to all present for a very successful and enjoyable meeting.
