Wow! It was yet another great meeting and a very memorable one, too! Why? Because this joint meeting was with the oldest Toastmasters club in Kuala Lumpur, the one and only Toastmaster International Kuala Lumpur Club which started 26 years ago. Besides members of both clubs, there were also 2 guests present, namely Nik M Zaki, a soon-to-be toastmaster and Jordan, an ex-toastmaster.
The meeting was kicked off by our spick and span Renuka Devi who was the impromptu SAA. As it’s a joint meeting, the President of TMIKL, Sandra Ghouse, CTM had the privilege of giving the opening address. With her smiling and endearing personality, Sandra gave a very sweet speech with great pointers regarding the benefits of being a toastmaster.
We had an additional boost of inspiration with Shanmugam, CTM delivering an invocation about a blind couple that really teased our imagination.
Table Topics Master, Kwong Chee Seong, CC was absolutely up to the mark by giving 5 topics that related very closely with our theme for the evening “building fellowship”.
First speaker, Chandran, CTM spoke with great enthusiasm on the topic “No man is an island”.
Second speaker, guest Jordan expressed his thoughts coherently about “Workmates and friends”.
Third speaker, Lourdes, DTM maintained his principle of only following someone who must be better than him and who also “walks the talk”.
Fourth speaker, Ranjit, CTM spoke freely and humorously about “Teachers as Friends” who are also creatures of beauty to be admired.
Fifth speaker, Sandra Ghouse, CTM spoke fluently about “cables” in connection with streamyx-powered internet communications and, of course, cables could also mean important connections between people.
Best Table Topics Speaker went to Ranjit Singh, CTM
As usual, Muhendaran, ATMS gave a very objective evaluation on the ‘delivery’ of all the table topic speakers.
Our first-time humour master, Sham Sunder did a wonderful job of tickling our funny bones with 3 very well-composed jokes.
Assignment speaker number one, Ismail Omar from TMIKL did his icebreaker with the title “My first train journey” and was evaluated by Lakhmichand, ATMB. He could remember it so well because that was the first time he left Kelantan by train and he really brought back some fond memories of the sixties era for all the older members present.
Assignment speaker number two, Bavani, did speech number 6 from the C&L manual with the title “The Terrible 3” and was evaluated by Richard Toh from TMIKL. She described interestingly how her three-year-old son could make “all hell break loose” at times. But, of course, kids are kids and ultimately they are as lovable as ever.
Assignment speaker number three, Ranjit, delivered an abstract concept speech from the Advanced Manual ‘speaking to inform’ and was evaluated by Lourdes, DTM. Ranjit brought us dramatically into the psychic world of the ‘suicide bomber’ and definitely left us with ‘ macabre images” of 9/11 and others.
Best speaker for the day went to Ranjit, CTM while best evaluator was Lourdes, DTM.
Sandra Ghouse, CTM commanded the floor as GE with her great smile and poise. Of course, she gave a very comprehensive evaluation of the whole meeting together with praises and tips.
Bangsar President, Lakhmichand, ATMB wrapped up the meeting in his usual mellowed style. It was, undoubtedly, a very satisfying and enriching meeting for all.
