Wow ! It was yet another fruitful and exciting meeting. We certainly made it happen. Although some assigned role players could not make it, all the substitutes fitted in very well. Even our first timers, Kumar and Sham Sunder did a commendable job as Ah Counter and Timer, respectively. Congratulations for their spirit of keenness.

The President, DTM Lourdes warmly welcomed the guests and as always, reminded the members about our theme of “Fun, Fellowship & Fulfillment”. He thanked the members for the spirit of camaraderie and teamwork shown in helping to get the meeting ready.

Aptly, the President continued with an invocation that touched on the very successful Japanese entrepreneur, Mr. Honda. He said that Honda’s success principles were: Failure, Courage & Introspect.

Living up to the Toastmasters maxim “ A Toastmasters Wears Many Hats”, the President went on to conduct the Table Topics session as an emergency substitute. He produced some impromptu topics that really gave ample room for imagination, creativity and expression.

The first speaker, Suriakumar had to face the challenge of suddenly receiving a bouquet of flowers from a lady, unexpectedly, and having to respond appropriately in words and action.

Second speaker, Renuka was put in a rather awkward situation of being the only one present at a club meeting and improvising what she could make out of it.

Third speaker, Shanmugam had the embarrassing experience of noticing a lady friend having her zipper down and he was in a quandary as to what he should contemplate saying or doing.

Fourth speaker, Sham Raj had the unusual but must-be-thrilling ‘power handshake’ from a lady who refused to let go.

Final speaker, Kenny(a guest) was asked to remember a song that reminded him of being jilted

The accolade for best speaker went to Renuka who obviously “came out of a one-person meeting, triumphant and more enlightened”.

Table Topics Evaluator, Ranjit was again in his element, giving a very comprehensive and supportive evaluation of the speakers.

We had 3 good prepared speeches for the day.

First speaker, Pratap did his Basic C&L No. 9 with the title “The Trap”. A simple first-hand tip for guys who are still single and hunting. Better beware than to be sorry !

Second speaker, Shanmugam did assignment No. 2 from the Advanced Manual: The Entertaining Speaker Series. His topic was: Morality – Just a Perspective. What is moral to you can be immoral in the eyes of someone else, do you agree?

Final speaker, Muhendaran did speech No. 2 from the Advanced manual : Technical Presentations. His topic title was: “Contract Test or Reasonable Test”. Sounds technical allright, so you must be present to understand. As the speaker is a very experienced solicitor in labour law disputes, I must say you have missed something if you were not present. It’s an aspect of labour laws that everyone should know, whether as an employer or employee, if you want to come out the winner !

Best Speaker of the day went to Muhendaran ATMS and Best Evaluator to Ranjit CTM.

The General Evaluator, ATMB Lakhmichand, also affectionately known as “Lucky” is an out-and-out toastmaster. With his vast experience, what can you get but honest and constructive feedback. He wrapped up a very beautiful and enjoyable evening in his distinctly ‘mellowed style’.

Kudos to all the role players, speakers, evaluators, members and guests for making it a great meeting.

Let’s propel Bangsar Toastmasters into the Premier League of Toastmasters ! See you at the next meeting on 19th September 2006. Have a nice day !
